New York Times Blasts Faulty Background Checks

It normally takes a real moment for the New York Times to weigh in on something, especially in the small world of pre-employment background screening. That real moment might have been come when via a 2011 federal lawsuit in Illinois. The lawsuit settled on a discrepancy in an applicant’s background report kept him from getting a job. The background screening company reported that the young man (who was 20 at the time) was convicted of assault in 1987 – when the applicant was 4 years old!
